Pilot Baby Puppy Class - Selected Regions in 2012

The Baby Puppy futurity pilot program for a new class will be offered in the following regions in 2012:

  • MidWest
  • NorthWest
  • SouthEast
  • SouthWest

This class has been approved for us by AKC and is in line with their 4 & under 6 month Baby Puppy class.

Puppy Socialization

Many breeders have told me that they frequently travel to futurities with new puppies to help in the puppy’s socialization.  They indicated a desire to be able to show them, but it is hard for a club to carve out time to hold a match.  This class provides such a class, is also a chance for breeders to display their entire litter and perhaps entice new buyers into the show ring.

Baby Puppy Class Eligibility and Rules

The Baby Puppy Class is for puppies (only from nominated litters) that are born between Oct. 1 and Dec 31 of the previous year (2011).  These puppies are not eligible to be shown in a Futurity until the following year (2013) when they are Seniors.  Since most breeders are incredibly proud of new puppies, this is a long time to wait to display them.  Hence the idea of a class for these babies was conceived.

Even though they must be from nominated litters, these baby puppies will not compete for Best In Futurity or Best Opposite Sex In Futurity.  However, the following year they will be eligible to compete in any Futurity as Senior dogs.

Prizes & Reduced Entry Fee

The prizes will only be ribbons (and publicity), so the entry fee will be $15.00.  For any breeder wanting to enter their entire litter, the total entry fee will be $50.00 for all of them.  You should not feel compelled to hire a handler for this class, as owners and friends can usually show little puppies. This is a great selling tool.
